The U.S. Department Energy, using funds allocated in the Federal Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act, will provide grants totaling $471 million in the first year and approximately $459 million annually over the next five years to States and Indian Tribes to improve the resilience of electric grids. Kansas is eligible for $6.6 million in annual grant funds.

The Kansas Corporation Commission held a public hearing on March 16, 2023 regarding the utilization of the State of Kansas’ allocation for the life of the grant under the Resilience Formula Grant Program and to review the criteria and anticipated methods to be used to grant awards to eligible entities and potential approaches for distributing funding. The hearing offered the opportunity for public comments. Written comments will also be accepted.
