Public Hearings & Comment Periods
The Commission welcomes and encourages public input on utility rate and siting cases and proposed rules and regulations. There are two ways for citizens to participate in the formal regulatory process. The first is to attend a public hearing. The second is to submit a comment during the open comment period. Scheduled Public Hearings and Open Comment Periods
Public hearing and comment period scheduled for Empire Electric rate change request
Empire District Electric Company has filed an application with the Kansas Corporation Commission requesting an annual increase in gross revenues of $2.5 million or 15%. For a residential customer using 1,000 kWh of electricity a month, the proposed increase would be approximately $19.99 per month. The increase would affect all of Empire's 9,670 retail customers which includes residential, commercial, industrial, port authority and street and highway customers.
The KCC will hold a public hearing on the proposed rate increase on March 28, 2019 from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. at Columbus Unified High School, 124 South High School Avenue, Columbus, Kansas. Public comments will be accepted through 5 p.m. CST on June 14, 2019.
Public hearing and comment period scheduled on Proposed Motor Carrier Administrative Regulations
The Kansas Corporation Commission will hold a public hearing to consider adoption of proposed KCC rules and regulations. The hearing is scheduled for 10 a.m. on Tuesday, May 14, 2019, in the First Floor Hearing Room at the office of the Kansas Corporation Commission, 1500 SW Arrowhead, Topeka, Kansas.
Public comments will be accepted prior to the hearing and may be submitted online using the link below, via written letter addressed to the KCC Office of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection or by phone at 1-800-662-0027 or (785) 271-3140. Interested parties may also attend the the public hearing to present their views orally.
